Job Description
On Deck is seeking a Senior Java Engineer for the Data Team to build highly scalable applications from the ground up that will help millions of small businesses across the country gain access to capital they need to grow their business.

As part of the Data Team, you will:

Build the brain of On Deck to offer the right loan to the right small business, which is essential for the company to scale to millions of customers. These systems also help the company become smarter about predicting loan payments, loan defaults and about launching new loan products for our customers.

You will architect and build applications that gather and aggregate data from various data sources, make real-time educated decisions about a customer’s eligibility for a loan, and allow our credit team to quickly update our credit policy for our customers without code changes! Not to mention, you will have the opportunity to work with tons of data, make sense of it, and apply the lessons to our systems.

About You:

You have 3+ years of experience using the Java platform
You have 1+ years of experience using open-source libraries like Spring, Hibernate, etc.
You understand both SQL and NoSQL databases and how they work
You are comfortable with building object-oriented systems and have an eye for good design
You love building systems that handle data in a scalable way using the best technology
You are comfortable with agile development and follow extreme programming practices like Unit Testing, CI, etc.
You are a quick learner and are enthusiastic about introducing and using new technologies/tools to improve software development
You are passionate about technology. Ideally, you’ve created a public GitHub project, posted answers on Stack Overflow, modified open-source code, or created some hacks that you’re proud of
You have excellent communication skills, both written and oral
