Job Description
Tremor Video is hiring a hands-on Software Engineering Manager to work our NYC headquarters. This is a significant opportunity for you to help build a team of web scale Java engineers working on next generation systems for online and mobile video advertising, including advanced analytics portals for Big Data intelligence.
The person must be able to build, lead, coach and inspire excellence from a team of Java software engineers designing and developing API frameworks, which integrate with our MySQL, Hadoop / NoSQL and caching backend. You and your team will be experienced with high performance, highly scalable Java / Linux web applications with extensive use of Spring and Hibernate frameworks. Tremor is an agile shop so we’re looking for someone who is deep into SCRUM / agile methodologies.
You and your team will work closely with a diverse, cross-functional and geographically disperse people consisting of Java Engineers, Architects, Data Scientists, Product Managers, Project Managers, QA, Support and UI/UX designers. The team effort involved in this job requires the Manager to be an excellent communicator and thrive in fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
This is a major initiative for Tremor Video as we open up our API to our enterprise clients for a new product offering.
Skills & Requirements
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
· Excellent managerial and team-building skills in an agile and fast-moving environment
· Experience working closely with the REST/WS API technologies
· Understanding pros and cons of various related design patterns (e.g. API versioning, security, validations, business rules)
· Hands-on skills as a Java Engineer, including use of the Spring and Hibernate frameworks.
· Expert-level understanding of the SQL language
· Solid understanding of a relational data storage technology such as MySQL
· Solid Linux shell skills
· Excellent understanding of the best development practices (including automated testing, documentation, release engineering, etc)
· High energy level & excellent people/team member skills
· Proactive attitude and efficient communication skills
Pluses:
· Exposure to Hadoop and NoSQL technologies (e.g. Lucene/Solr, Memcached/Ehcache)
· Practical experience in automated performance and/or load testing
· Understanding of various security technologies and standards such as OAuth, OpenID, LDAP
