Job Description
Scrum/XP team in midtown Manhattan looking for an experienced Rubyist or experienced Java/C# developer interested in learning Ruby.
Join as one of four developers on an established Scrum/XP team with a scrum master and product ownership. Work entails creating and maintaining Ruby on Rails websites and other consumer digital products for Simon & Schuster, a leading English Language trade publisher. Position reports directly to VP Engineering for Simon & Schuster Digital with nine years experience collaborating with Agile teams. Required Skills:
2-3 years professional experience working with Ruby on Rails or equivalent experience in object oriented languages such as Java, C# or PHP and willingness to learn Ruby.
Experience with Extreme Programming (XP) development and Scrum lifecycle practices, or a strong desire to learn including: pair programming, test driven development, continuous integration, iterative delivery, retrospection
Interpersonal skills to collaborate closely with cross-functional team and to communicate with executive sponsors
Fluency in software coding patterns: model-view-controller pattern, object-relational mapping, RESTful services
Fluency in software coding techniques: unit testing, code refactoring, observance of team coding standards.
Ability to work on-site in Midtown Manhattan
Experience implementing semantic HTML/CSS
Experience with Javascript (using frameworks such as JQuery)
Preferred Skills/Experience
Experience building DHTML/HTML5 user experiences
Experience with Rspec, xUnit frameworks
Experience optimizing Rails/mysql databases
Experience with XML, XQuery, xslt a plus
Experience with Redis, NoSQL a plus
Knowledge of Objective-C, Cocoa, and Mac/iPhone Frameworks a plus
Experience in C#.NET, SQL Server, a plus
